Since 2004, architect Frederico Marques has built extensive expertise in the automotive sector, developing design concepts alongside the engineering team at the José Carlos Pace Autodrome (Interlagos) in São Paulo.
A landmark of this collaboration is the Sector B Grandstand. Constructed between July 2011 and March 2012 over the site of the former seating area, the project spans approximately 3,150 m², featuring 1,634 seats and a VIP lounge for 600 guests.
Its prime location offers a direct, privileged view of the starting grid and the podium.
The grandstand was built using pre-cast concrete for the public seating area. To maximize efficiency, the space beneath the structure was utilized for service and support areas for the events hall.
The hall itself features a suspended steel structure over the spectators, extending towards the track via a 980 m² steel-frame slab with a 6.50-meter cantilever. Inclined, acoustically treated frames were used to enhance the viewing angle while providing panoramic, unobstructed views of the racetrack, starting grid, and podium.
A Laje da Cobertura é aberta nos dias de evento para o público das áreas vips dos eventos.
The ground floor houses the access points, featuring steel-structured emergency stairs and an elevator designed for people with disabilities, ensuring full access to the grandstand level.
The steel structure, characterized by its diagonal lines and slightly inclined frames, lends a sense of dynamic form to the building. The suspended roof, designed with inverted trusses, stands out as a key architectural feature; it effectively reduces internal temperatures within the events hall while creating a new public space—an observation deck (mirante) offering a panoramic view of the entire track.
Access to the events hall is provided by three elevators; the central elevator is dedicated to service, connecting the lower support areas directly to the hall.
At each end of the structure, two VIP lounges with private terraces were designed.
The grandstand design enhances the direct connection between the audience and the motorsport races, heightening spectator excitement with a full panoramic view of the circuit, positioned right in front of the starting grid.
